Peaceful protest In Glasgow

“you messed with the wrong city”

Kenmure Street protestor

Incredible scenes here – we got them out! Police released them from the van and took them to a safe haven, the local mosque. Seriously beautiful example of peaceful protest, never seen anything like it. Real people power in action. Amazing.

Text message from Michael Parfitt shortly after the release of the two men.

Our friends Michael and Jo live in Glasgow and a spontaneous protest happened right outside their flat yesterday as hundreds of people surrounded a Home Office vehicle that contained two immigrants who had been removed from a flat. A strong indicator of how Scots feel about the UK Government.

The protest was a spontaneous response to something seen as completely unjust.
“Campaigners have hailed a victory for Glaswegian solidarity and told the Home Office “you messed with the wrong city” as two men detained by UK Immigration Enforcement were released back into their community after a day of protest.” (Quote from The Guardian.)
