Les Eyzies in the Dordogne

Les Eyzies in the Dordogne

Shot at Les Eyzies in the Dordogne this afternoon. When I looked at it I though there was dust on it (a constant battle in the days of real film). I looked closer and it turned out to be hundreds of martens (or similar) feasting on the rich insect life. This made me think of the recent reports of the frightening loss of bird life in North America – of course brought about by the extensive use of pesticides. I noticed this a few years ago travelling from LA to Mexico where the huge flocks of birds had a big impact on me after the lack of this phenomenon in the US. The scary part is that you don’t notice the absence until you travel to somewhere where the insect life hasn’t been killed off.
